The School has in the past hosted a number of visiting artists and companies of national and international standing. All practical classes are delivered in the Media Factory which houses three fully equipped theatres as well as sound recording studios, film and photography studios and a range of music rehearsal rooms and seminar spaces.
Lectures take place in purpose built suites which are equipped with digital projection facilities. The programme is taught by professional artists and theatre practitioners who are established leaders in their own field. It is intrinsic to the course to engage in "real world", professional domain, industrial projects.

Some of these activities are initiated by the course tutors however, as part of the curriculum, students are encouraged to identify and develop their own projects that resonate with their individual professional aspirations and career goals. Such activities provide exposure to people and organisations outside the university, hence providing the opportunity to develop extensive networks of contacts and professional relationships that may prove useful on completion of the course.

To facilitate access to the programme, students can opt to study in modes which are appropriate to their personal circumstance. Students may study 60 credits resulting in the award of PG Certificate, credits with the award of PG Diploma or credits with the award of Master of Arts; each award can be studied in full or part-time modes. Study may be staged with students achieving the PGCert or PGDip and taking a study break before continuing with a higher award.
Part-time study can be negotiated for each of the awards. Although all three awards are stand-alone qualifications, they also form part of the Doctor of Arts programme. MA Music Industry Management and Promotion is integrated into Doctor of Arts as the Level 7 element of the programme equivalent to the first year of the Doctorate if studied full-time. Achievement of the MA Music Industry Management and Promotion would therefore enable students to progress to the higher level of the Doctoral programme.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT BA (HONS)
Final year undergraduate and postgraduate Performance students have the opportunity to get involved in our annual cJAM employability event. The cJAM event format consists of four main components: Students hear from keynote industry speakers who share their personal career journey and how they got to where they are now.
Informal networking opportunities during the breaks and lunch. The key element of cJAM is the giant speed meeting session. The students have eight minutes one-to-one time to meet with selected industry guests to try and win a placement. Students can choose to talk about an idea, their reasons for wanting a placement with that particular company or to showcase their enthusiasm, skills and talent.
Immediately following the speed meeting session, placements are decided on and the event closes with all the winning students being presented with their placement awards. In , there were four cJAM events and a total of placements were awarded. All of which enabled our students to establish credible links in line with their career aspirations.

Teaching on this degree is structured into lectures, where all students are taught together, and smaller groups of seminars and tutorials. The lectures will provide you with a general framework in Business Management, whilst the seminar activities and discussions, help your understanding and application of the subject. In tutorial sessions you will not only develop your understanding of Business Management further, but at times, work together in student led activities.
Seminars and tutorials are also designed to enhance your leadership and employability skills. If you are studying Business Management as a Single Honours degree, in your first year of study there are approximately 12 teaching hours per week, which will decrease to approximately 10 teaching hours per week in your second and third years. If you are studying Business Management as a Combined Honours degree, in your first year of study there are approximately 6 teaching hours each week, which decreases to approximately 5 teaching hours in your second and third years.
On top of teaching hours, you are also expected to spend more time studying independently each week. Throughout your three years of study, you will have a number of assessments.
Exams are normally held at the end of each academic year and you are required to complete a series of assessment tasks during each year. These typically include business reports, essays, and a portfolio. In addition to this, you are given opportunities for formative feedback on assessments, with opportunities to improve before your final submission. You will be given feedback on your assessments, and you will have the opportunity to discuss this with your tutor in more detail. You will be introduced to the underlying principles of Business Management that will lay the foundations for progression through your degree.
You will study four component parts 4Cs to understanding what a business is the Company , how it interacts with its environment the Context , how it serves its customers the Customers and how it manages its competition the Competition. Additionally, in your first year, you will gain an appreciation of fundamental business structures and functions and the management challenges posed by the contemporary and ever complex business environment.

You will be introduced to the underlying principles of Marketing and the relationship between Marketing and the global business context. Study of this relationship can help contextualise marketing theory and practice and further help you understand the dynamics of contemporary marketing management, as you explore concepts such as the marketing mix, segmentation, targeting and positioning, and consumer behaviour.
This year will equip you with the fundamental skills for employability. Group-based work will develop your ability to work as part of a team, whilst student-led tutorials will enhance your competence in relation to interpreting, producing and presenting information in a variety of formats. At the end of this year, you will have the ability to deliver multiple projects within given timescales.
